Hi everyone,
This Saturday, we're heading down to Oceanside, with a little detour to PID for those who love to climb (and suffer). We'll be kicking things off from the Irvine MetroLink station and wrapping up at Oceanside, so we can enjoy a leisurely train ride back while basking in the glory of our accomplishments (or nursing our regrets).
The route has us going through Camp Pendleton, but you will need a pass to go through the base. I don't have the pass, so I will be riding on the shoulder of the freeway. I have ridden on the shoulder on the past and in my opinion it is safe.
Trains back from Oceanside leave at 1:28, 2:35, and 4:30. If you're feeling particularly motivated (or have mastered time travel), the 1:28 train is an option—just make sure you're ready to sprint like you're in the Tour de France. As for me? I'll be cruising into Oceanside later with zero rush and maximum chill.
As for PID? Yeah... I'll be skipping that and focusing on what really matters: giving the "fast riders" a hard time while I push through the flats. You're more than welcome to join me in the art of well-timed banter and leisurely pedaling. Trust me, it's where the real fun is.
After the ride, most of us will be grabbing lunch at Local Tap House in Oceanside. If you can still feel your legs (or even if you can't), join us for food, drinks, and endless stories of how we almost made the 1:28 train.
